LYNNE HANSON AND THE GOOD INTENTIONS – SUNDAY 23RD APRIL, 2017
Lynne Hanson and the Good Intentions last played Town Hall Live in June 2016. They were so good that we just had to have them back, particularly as Lynne will have a new album out to coincide with her latest UK tour.
The band are known for their hard-living style of music, mixing gritty ballads with driving roots tinged guitar. Lynne’s deep bluesy croon is pure and full of fortitude and she’s drawn comparisons to Lucinda Williams, with a touch of Gillian Welch thrown on. On her new album ‘Uneven Ground’, produced by Winnipeg’s Scott Nolan, she explores the realm of giving sound advice through song writing and fighting back against the devil within us. With a liberal amount of Texan grit and a polished Nashville sensibility in her songs, it would be easy to assume the Canadian song writer came from Texas or Tennessee. The songs are brimming with over with imagery and cleverly penned lyrics and fall within the next generation of roots and blues music, whilst still respecting traditions.
On her previous album ‘River of Sand’ Lynne was fortunate enough to work with Lynne Myles. The songs were honest and fearless and reflected Lynne’s life in the two years previous. No topic was off limits and the eleven songs painted a candid picture of heartbreak and struggle, but all contrasted in the fact that better times were just around the corner. And they certainly were, the album is stunning and led to highly successful tours of Europe and the UK in both 2015 and 2016.
Some people have referred to Lynne’s music as Americana, roots and rough around the edges folk, but her songs are like a favourite pair of jeans, they are comfortable and lived in.
Lynne’s live performances are polished and rocking, as those who attended last year’s concert will testify to. This time around the Good Intentions will consist of Brodie Mohninger on lead guitar and MJ Dandeneau on bass, and Shawn Killaly on drums.
It is sure to be another wonderful concert. Video clips from last June’s concert are attached, for you to see how good the band are.
Playing the support slot will be ex Rita Payne member Rhiannon Scutt. Since her last appearance Rhiannon has been busy writing new songs and will give them an airing at this concert.
