THE KENNEDYS- FRIDAY, 12TH MAY 2017
The Kennedys are Pete and Maura Kennedy, both East Coast natives who met in Austin, Texas as members of Nanci Griffith Blue Moon Orchestra. They joined forces and set out on the road, two decades later saw them celebrate their 20th anniversary in 2015, both as a duo and a married couple.
They have been prolific over that time and continued to play with Nanci Griffith. In 2014 they released a tribute album to Nanci and toured the UK with it. One of the dates was a concert at Town Hall Live and they played a fantastic set.
In 2015 Maura released a solo album ‘Villanelle’, as did Pete with ‘Heart of Gotham’. Not content, they also released a duo album ‘West’. It is a collection of thirteen enchanting tracks, whose heartfelt and passionate execution makes for a wonderful listening experience. It is an instant classic Kennedys duo album, that seamlessly weaves the couple’s influences over the last two decades, with Buddy Holly style roots, the tuneful cadences of the Everley Brothers and the ringing 12 String jangle of the early Byrds records.
Ultimately Pete and Maura knit these threads into an amalgam that sounds like the ‘Best of The Kennedys’, but in reality are an all new collection of songs.
Live they are exhilarating with Maura’s beautiful vocals driven by Pete’s sensational guitar style and virtuosity. Another great Town Hall Live is guaranteed.
Supporting The Kennedys will be Dan Webster from York. Dan’s music is influenced by the sounds and storytelling traditions of American and British folk music, in it’s broadest sense, American and rock and roll. Americana UK describes him as a hybrid of Damien Rice, Seth Lakeman and Ton McRae.
Advance Tickets for this concert are priced at £12.50 and can be obtained, as usual, from the One Stop store in the town, from Brian on 01652 649230 or from www.wegottickets.com.
