TOWN HALL JAZZ- NICOLA FARNON TRIO
New to the Town Hall in 2016 is the first in a series of Jazz concerts, this premiere concert features the Nicola Farnon Trio and is brought to you in association with New Jazz 5 and as part of Lincoln Jazz Week 2016,
Nicola Farnon is a double bassist and vocalist and is widely recognised as one of the classiest Jazz and Swing musicians in the UK, Wiltshire born and now Sheffield resident, Nicola has a remarkable musical pedigree, both parents being professional classical musicians and her great uncle no less than the late Robert Farnon.
After an early start on piano and cello (grade 8 in both by the age of eleven), she followed her dad’s love of the ‘standards’ into jazz via the double bass and an enchanting voice which was developed during her Performing Arts studies at Middlesex University. Her quintet made a memorable appearance on Radio 3’s Jazz Line up and her sparkling trio and quartet appear regularly on the jazz circuit (she has featured at many festivals including Glastonbury and Manchester, Birmingham, London, Marlborough, Liverpool International jazz festivals).
The arrangements are all done by her – with some melodic and extremely catchy originals thrown in for good measure. She has also played with such Jazz luminaries as Dave Newton, Digby Fairweather, Jim Mullen, Bruce Adams, Roy Williams and Alan Barnes and alongside class jazz acts as diverse as Eliane Elias, Courtney Pine, Georgie Fame,Tony Kofi, Michael Garrick Jazz Britannia Orchestra Sir John Dankworth and Dame Cleo Laine, Humphrey Lyttleton and Acker Bilk.
