The Rhiannon Scutt Band
SUNDAY 18TH MARCH , THE RHIANNON SCUTT BAND
On 19th January this year the newly formed Rhiannon Scutt Band played a sold-out show at The Yellow Arches venue in Sheffield (capacity 150) to launch Rhiannon’s new EP, No. 9. The concert took Rhiannon’s songs and performance to a new level. Now she has agreed to play Town Hall Live.
The band consists of Rhiannon on guitar and lead vocals, Sarah Smout on cello and backing vocals, on keyboards and on drums.
Rhiannon, of course was one half of the popular duo Rita Payne, with singer Pete Sowerby. We first saw them play at the Brigg Acoustic Music Festival in 2012. Despite being one of the first acts to play, at 11 am on Saturday morning and playing to five men and a dog, their talent was obvious. Three years and two albums later, the two decided to go their separate ways. During their time together, they were extremely popular and played two sold-out THL shows. They had a great following in South Yorkshire and beyond. Their career highlight was a sold-out show at The Memorial Hall in Sheffield to launch their second album. 250 people were in the audience and several THL regulars attended.
Rhiannon moved to Sheffield and embarked on a solo career. She has played several support slots at THL. We know how good a guitarist she is and what great songs she writes, but it is her unique, velvety voice that has come to the fore.
She released No. 9 at the end of 2017. It contains six of her favourite songs. The launch concert at Yellow Arches was superb, Rhiannon displayed a new-found confidence and having the band will allow her to blossom even further. It was so good that we just had to have her back in Kirton, where she has always gone down a storm. I know it’s on a Sunday, but don’t let that put you off.
Advance Tickets are priced at £10 and can be obtained from the One Stop store in the town, from Brian on 01652 649230 or from www.wegottickets.
