“Effortlessly slips from smoky soul, folk-pop and heart wrenching alternative country, all in her trademark rich, velvety voice” – Q Magazine.
For our last concert of 2018 we welcome Danni Nicholls to Town Hall Live. Danni’s star continues to rise, with two consecutive Americana Music Association Award Nominations for Album of the Year in 2017 and Artist of the Year in 2018 and performing at Folk Alliance International in Kansas. In May this year she embarked on her next musical journey, making a new studio album in Nashville with renowned producer Jordan Brooke Hamlin.
Danni’s interest in music began at a young age thanks to her grandmother’s collection of American Folk, country and rock ’n’ roll music. When she was sixteen she got her first guitar and her connection with it was instantaneous. As soon as she knew the chords she began writing her own songs. Eventually she released two EP’s ‘Heavy Shoes’ and ‘Time’, but the turning point in her career came when she met legendary producer Chris Donahue at an Emmylou Harris concert in London in 2011. It lead to an invite to record her debut album ‘A Little Redemption’ in with Chris in Nashville in 2013. It was followed by ‘Mockingbird Lane’ in 2015 which again was produced by Donahue.
Promoting these albums has resulted in headlining tours, support slots for artists such as Lucinda Williams. Shakin’ Stevens and The Secret Sisters and numerous festival appearances in the UK and Europe. In 2017 she released a live album in association with Vintage TV.
The new album, which will be released in Spring 2019, anchors itself in the idea that loving ourselves is just as crucial as loving others. To join her in this musical exploration, Danni chose producer Hamlin, who has worked with Indigo Gitls and Lucy Wainwright Roche amongst others. He played various instruments on ‘A Little Redemption’ and the two have been friends ever since.
The word that recurs most in any Danni Nicholls reviews is ‘elegance’. She is too modest to agree, but it is a style she has lovingly honed during her career. Bob Harris of Radio 2 has championed Danni and says ‘I absolutely love the beauty and elegance of her music and voice’. There are many that agree.
Danni will accompanied by Tom Dibb on guitars and Mark Lewis on bass. THL audience will remember them as being the core part of The Lauren Housley Band. Support will come from Liverpool artist Robbie Cavanagh. Robbie’s beautiful lyrics and flawless soulful vocals, along with his incredible live performances never fail to turn heads. Last Year Robbie released his excellent album ‘To Leave/ To be Left’
Advanced Tickets for his concert are priced at £13.50 and can be obtained from the One Stop store in Kirton, from Brian on 01652 649230 or from www.wegottickets.com.
